Privacy Policy

For the Do-Gooders mobile app (iOS and Android). Effective 2026-04-24.

Summary

Do-Gooders is an audiobook reader for the books published by Ken Simpson and/or Bellissimo, Inc. The app does not require an account and does not collect personally identifiable information. Your reading position, bookmarks, and preferences are stored on your device. The sections below describe everything the app sends off-device and why.

Information stored on your device

The app saves the following locally so the experience persists between launches:

• Reading position and bookmarks for each book.
• Appearance preferences (theme, font size, font style, chat voice).
• Cached audio segments downloaded for offline playback.
• Queued bookmark requests captured by Siri or the iPhone Action Button before the app opens (iOS only).

Uninstalling the app removes all of this data. There is no remote backup.

Information sent off-device

Audio and text content. The app fetches the audiobook’s HLS audio and text chunks from Firebase Storage (operated by Google on our behalf). These requests carry only the file path and a short-lived signed token; they do not include identifying information.

Anonymous usage analytics. Firebase Analytics records app events such as “app_init_started”, “reader_progress_checkpoint”, “paywall_shown”, and “deep_link_opened” so we can understand which features people use. These events do not include your name, email, account, or precise location.

Crash reports. Firebase Crashlytics receives a stack trace and limited device state when the app crashes. We use these reports to fix bugs.

Chat messages. When you open the in-app chat, your question and recent context from the book are sent to our chat backend (hosted on Google Cloud Run) so a language model can answer. We log requests for abuse prevention; logs are not associated with any account.

In-app purchases. Purchases are processed by Apple (on iOS) or Google (on Android) under your existing store account. We receive only the receipt the operating system gives us so the app can unlock content you bought.

Information we do not collect

The app does not access your name, email address, contacts, photos, calendar, location, microphone, or speech recognition. We do not use third-party advertising or marketing trackers.

Children

The app is rated for ages 12+ in both the App Store and Google Play. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app and want their local data deleted, ask them to uninstall it.

Your choices

• iOS: opt out of Apple’s system-level analytics in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
• Android: opt out of personalised advertising and reset your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.
• Uninstall the app to delete every byte of local data.
• Email us at support@do-gooders.com with any privacy question; we usually answer promptly.

Service providers

The third parties listed below process data on our behalf. None of them receive an identifier we control linked to you.

• Apple — App Store and in-app purchases (iOS).
• Google — Play Store and in-app purchases (Android).
• Google (Firebase) — file hosting (Storage), anonymous analytics (Analytics), crash reports (Crashlytics).
• Google Cloud Run — chat backend.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update the effective date at the top. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
